Being a beauty blogger can have many benefits: you can get free beauty products and chances to partner with popular brands if you’re good at it. You could create thousands of fans in the audience. Like any career, however, you’ll need to devote a lot of time and effort to be productive. You should also expect to invest in your company, and be able to financially support yourself when your business gets off the ground. If you’re passionate about beauty products and have a strong work ethic you can build a beauty blog over time that people love to read!
Planning Your Strategy
1. Decide which one you are going to work for. You can choose to start your own Beauty blog. Or, you may want to start working for a new organization or through an agency. You can do both too. Bear in mind that if you want to work for someone else, you will be responsible for maintaining a certain level of interest in your content on social media (for example, through “likes” or “shares”).
- If you choose to work for another company, as a freelance journalist or as a salaried employee you can do so. To find job jobs, join the search engines “employ beauty blogger” or use keywords such as “beauty blogger,” “beauty journalist” and “freelance beauty” on career search websites.
2. Finance planning. Don’t plan to become a popular overnight beauty blogger. If you launch your own beauty blog, you ‘re going to need other ways to financially support yourself – at least at first. Pay your bills with a budget before your blog generates enough money to be your full-time career.
- You might want a full-time job doing something else, with time set aside for your beauty blog on evenings and weekends.
3. Locate your niche. A niche is a field of particular interest. Think about what makes your routine of beauty unique and try to come up with a topic related to you. Create a list of niche ideas, then conduct online searches to determine how much competition you are going to have in that field. You don’t have to be the only beauty blogger in your niche, but you don’t want to choose a subject that’s so broad you ‘re going to have trouble making your mark. Keep in mind that you’re going to want your blog to stick to your niche as much as possible, so don’t pick such an ultra-specific subject that you’re going to run out of ways to write about it.
- When you have curly hair, for example, your blog could focus on products, tips, and curl-management hairstyles.
- There’s a lot of competition in the general cosmetics realm. If you want to blog about cosmetics, try thinking of a way to make it different from what’s out there already. For example, for a particular skin type or face shape, you might want to narrow the specificity to makeup. Or, you might want to blog about a specific makeup style, such as daytime searches for career professionals, or runway make-up art and special occasions.
4. Weigh the promo reports pros and cons. Beauty companies will submit free items to you if you wish to write articles about them. Typically, once your blog has an established following, sponsorship opportunities materialize. If you’re interested in writing promotional reviews but your blog is still new, try looking for start-ups on places like Etsy or Storenvy – they might be interested in getting product reviews out there regardless of the audience size of your website.
- The biggest benefit is that you can try new stuff and don’t need to spend a penny on it.
- The downside is it can have an impact on your reputation. Supported posts or “tag placement” can cause your audience to have less faith in you; they can view you as biased because you receive compensation for your product opinion. If you don’t trust your audience, your viewership will likely decline. Be honest about reviewing products and not recommending things you don’t like.
- Search engines will penalize the rankings of your website for lack of popularity if you promote affiliate content without providing added value. When you want to write sponsored reviews, make sure that each of your pages is always filled with original written material. Google recommends you reveal why you’re writing the study, and use links to follow. Nofollow links notify search engines not to crawl them, so the links don’t impact your blog or affiliate website’s page ranking.
5. Knew about the target. When your niche has been worked out, you will decide who your target market is. Get to know who they are, and what they want to read. Think about what would inspire the people visiting the type of content that you are providing.
- If you want to write about anti-aging products, for example, your target audience will be women over the age of 25 interested in skincare. You may choose to use a mature writing style, an elegant layout, and an overall classy vibe to cater to that audience.
Assessing What You’ll Need
1. Write your job and print it out. You ‘re going to have to devote yourself to this if you want to become well known. You’ve got to practice being a good writer. Nobody likes reading stuff with lots of grammar mistakes or typos, so make sure you read them before publishing.
- Fact checks for spelling and proper brand names and proofread. Using a computer or online software that will also double-check your spelling and grammar.
- When you’re launching your own Beauty Blog, you’ve done at least 3-5 posts that you’re pleased with until you launch and you’ve got enough content to put up immediately.
2. Get the proper camera and lighting. Ideally, you want to either buy a decent camera or plan to work with a photographer. If you have one, you can use the camera on your phone while you’re just starting out. When you intend to make video blogs or videos, you’ll want to have a video camera too.
3. Use a program to edit the images. You’ll need software to edit and scale your images; Adobe Photoshop for example. You want to put a lot of pictures on your blog-the the better, the more! Using your image editing software to scale them down, and save them as internet-optimized so that your hosting resources and page load time are not bogged down.
- It is best to have natural or studio lighting. Make or purchase a light tent that has at least three light sources. When you don’t have decent lighting or a video flash, try using a tripod. When you don’t have these stuff, a space with windows that provides plenty of natural light may still be enough, but during daylight hours you’ll have to take images and/or videos.
4. Get a write on beauty goods. If you are going to check them and photograph them, you probably need to buy some of the materials you want to write on. You are not going to have the inventory and free product offers that established beauty bloggers do when you start out first. You can however purchase free samples to write about.
- Visit the department store and cosmetics shops. Try to say, “I ‘m starting a blog on beauty and I was wondering if you’ve got any free samples I could use.”
- Buy some products you want, and use them for yourself, which you can blog about as well! When purchasing something, check with local beauty shops to see if they have an offer for free samples so you can expand your purchase with more new items for free.
5. Find a speech. You’ll need to have a distinct personality and point of view to have a special appeal. You want the crowd to stand out. Your writing should be different from anyone else in the same way that you speak differently from everyone else.
- Make a list of features that would define you as a blogger. For example, what are the aspects of your personality that you would like to integrate into your blog style? Often refer back to the list, so your brand stays consistent.
- A lot of reading and writing will help you develop your own personality. Your style of voice and writing will probably evolve and become more sophisticated as your blog progresses.
6. Read about affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when you post actual advertisements on your website for other companies – e.g. banners or text advertisements on the sidebar or above/below your content. Such companies can pay you per button, per perception (when the ad is shown to users), or just for placing their ads on your site anywhere.
- You may join a marketing partner network such as Clickbank, or become a partner with companies such as eBay and Amazon. You can also subscribe to the ad programs via a search engine, such as Google AdSense.
- To escape search engine ranking penalties your site will clearly separate advertisements from the rest of the content on your site. For example, “Boost” should be clearly indicated in the text, and advertisements should not be disguised as articles or links to the navigation of the web. Your site’s original content should be displayed more prominently than any ads and users should not be overwhelmingly distracted or overly distracted by the ads.
7. Foster yourself. If you can make a TV appearance or get a magazine published, do it! You might also try blogging with friends. Consider creative ways of spreading the word about your blog. 5. Post regularly. Verify that you regularly write and add new material to your blog. Aim for at least a few posts a week, ideally four to five times a week. However much you want to write, try and turn it into a routine so you don’t end up constantly tapering off.
